Synopsis of last week's classes

Tuesdays - Spiritual Musings of Hafez
Jul 19: Hafez was a 14th century Persian Sufi mystic poet who lived in Shiraz, now a major city of Iran. Not much of authentic information about his life is available. He had memorized the whole Koran. That is the meaning of the word ‘Hafez’. The dividing lines between the secular and spiritual love get seamlessly intertwined in his poetry. The use of the word wine and tavern are to be understood as metaphorical.
Jul 26: Five of the poems of Hafez were discussed from the translations made by Khalid Hamid Shaida.
